"The Money Fight"
We all remember the boxing match between the undefeated retired five-time world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr and the two-division mixed martial arts (MMA) world champion Conor McGregor. It was a hell of a show not only for the fans but for the betting world as well.
This was the boxing match of the century or maybe even of the history. The most expensive fight ever, as they say. Tens of millions of dollars worth of wager in Nevada alone. We would like to take a more detailed look at the deep-pocket bets placed on that sporting event.
Since the market opening on February 16 till the actual fight on August 26, the bookies have been continuously taking the bets. We are not talking about the $10-100 bets, those punts were amounting from hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
Mayweather was an obvious favourite at 1.04 (1/25), while McGregor was priced by one of the top online bookmakers at 12.00 (11/1) to win the fight. Despite such long odds, for every bet placed on Floyd, there were 15 placed on Connor.
One of the top online bookmakers William Hill was among those who took some of the biggest bets on the boxing champion.
